Jones College

WESSON – The No. 4 Jones College men's soccer team remained unbeaten Friday with a 2-1 road victory over Copiah-Lincoln.

The Bobcats scored twice in the opening half and held off Co-Lin, despite the Wolves scoring on a late penalty kick to improve to 8-0-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play. Jones finished with a 19-13 advantage in shots and put 10 attempts on goal. 

FIRST HALF

After a tightly contested opening 22 minutes, Jones finally broke through midway through the opening period.

Braden Buchanan (Madison; Madison Central) set up Calvin Harrison (Hernando) in the 25th minute, and Harrison finished the one-on-one with the keeper to put the Bobcats ahead 1-0. 

It would only take Jones seven minutes to double the advantage.

Stanley Georgiou (Ampthill, England; Pro:Direct Hitchin) provided the assist for Buchanan, who found the back of the net to make it 2-0. 

The Bobcats carried the two-goal advantage into halftime after outshooting Co-Lin 10-7 in the opening 45 minutes. Jones put six of those attempts on frame. 

SECOND HALF

The match tightened after the break as Co-Lin continued to push for a response.

Jones still produced nine second-half shots, but neither side was able to find the net until the closing moments.

Co-Lin finally broke through in the 90th minute when Tyler Hornke converted a penalty kick to cut the Bobcat lead to 2-1. Jones then saw out the 30 seconds to secure its second conference victory of the season. 

Harrison led the Jones attack with seven shots, putting five on goal and scoring once.

Buchanan finished with five shots, three on target, a goal and an assist.

Mario Novaku (Wolverhampton, England; Codsall Community HS) added three shots with two on goal. 

Logan Correro (Byhalia; Lewisburg) played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded seven saves, allowing only the late penalty kick.
