LIVINGSTON, Ala. –
Karla Ovalle scored a brace in the first half as No. 3 Jones College downed No. 13 Southern Union State, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon at West Alabama.
The Bobcats knocked off their second ranked team of the year to improve to 3-0. SUS fell to 1-2.
Ovalle scored the first of her two, first-half goals 9:48 into the match and added another in the 26th minute.
Astrid Ortiz added a 20th minute goal and
Victoria Faure a fourth in the 66th minute, taking a rebound from Ortiz off the crossbar.
The Bison got a 43rd minute goal to make it 3-1 at the half, the only goal surrendered by Jones through three matches.
Jones owned a 13-3 shot advantage and drew six corners to Southern Union's one.
Jennifer Huerzeler had a goal against and a save in 68 minutes.
Darby Ford logged the final 22 minutes.
Jones is on the road in Pensacola, Fla., against No. 19 Northeast (Neb.) and No. 4 Johnson County Sept. 4 and Sept. 6.
