MERIDIAN – The 7th-ranked Jones College Bobcats defeated No. 12 Wallace State-Hanceville, 5-2, in a match shortened by rain here Friday afternoon at the Northeast Park Tennis Center.
Jones ends the regular season at 17-0, while the Lions are 16-1.
The Bobcats will next compete in the NJCAA Tournament May 2-6 in Sumter, S.C.
The Bobcats won two of the doubles matches.
Heidi Clayton and
Theresa Emelio beat Indira Wilson and Madison Standifer in No. 1 doubles, 8-2.
Camila Piquín and
Maria Martinez downed Jaedyn Martin and Lydia Lichlyter in No. 2 doubles, 8-3.
Josie Tullos and
Caroline Kilpatrick lost to Elizabeth Standifer and Jayden Johnson in No. 3 doubles, 5-8.
Clayton blanked Martin in No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0 and Martinez defeated Wilson in No. 3 singles, 7-5, 6-2. Emelio downed Lichlyter in No. 4 singles, 6-3, 7-6 (7-1). Kilpatrick lost to Elizabeth Standifer in No. 5 singles, 1-6, 2-6. Piquín split sets with Madison Standifer in No. 1 singles and Tullos had won the first set over Johnson when the match was stopped by rain.
Jones led the men's match 4-3 when it was ended by rain.
