NEW ORLEANS, La. –
Dylan Champagne had five of Jones' season-high 21 hits in a 15-11 win over Nunez at Noel Suarez Stadium Friday night.
Jones wrapped up non-conference play 17-6.
The Bobcats open MACCC play at No. 3 East Central on Tuesday (was Wednesday) with a 4 p.m. doubleheader.
Nunez plated four runs in the bottom of the first, aided by three walks and a hit-by-pitch.
But the Bobcats came storming back with an eight-run second thanks to a two-run
Kelan Guidry double,
Sanders Ainsworth two-run homer and two hits in the inning from Champagne.
The Pels scored five in the bottom of the inning to retake the lead, 9-8, on a two-run single from Brendan Guabert and three-run home run by Jackson Waller.
Gage Reeves' two-run homer in the third put Jones back in front, 10-9, and they wouldn't relinquish the lead the rest of the night.
Colton Smith relieved
Chase Russell after getting roughed up for nine runs in 1.2 innings and allowed a run over 2.2 innings before making way for
Trevor Hodges. Hodges got the win in 2.2 no-hit innings with four strikeouts and
Micah Coutta and
Caden Freeman closed out the win.
Behind Champagne's five hits, Ainsworth had three, Reeves three and
Talan Theriot was 3-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI.
Luke Conerly took the loss for Nunez, allowing 12 runs, five earned, over three innings.
