RAYMOND – No. 13 Jones College defeated No. 25 Hinds 8-1 here Thursday afternoon at the Cleon McKnight Tennis Center.
The Bobcats improve to 8-0 overall, 5-0 in the MACCC.
Jones won two of the doubles matches.
Felipe Morales (Ecuador) and
Reese Touchet (Northeast Jones) defeated Dennis Hayes Jr. and Miguel Beltran Lopez in No. 2 doubles, 8-2.
Ridge Jones (Northeast Jones) and
Ryan Roth (Resurrection Catholic) blanked Henry Slayton and Bryan Roldan in No. 3 doubles, 8-0.
Tom Garrett (Australia) and
Juan Francisco Pereyra (Argentina) lost to Pablo de Haro and Jaume Socias in No. 1 doubles, 5-8.
Pereyra beat de Haro in No. 1 singles, 7-5, 6-2 and Garrett outlasted Socias in No. 2 singles, 6-1, 5-7, 7-5. Morales defeated Lopez in No. 3 singles, 6-1, 7-5 and Jones shutout Slayton in No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Luke Westmoreland (Grenada) blanked Hayes in No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-0 and
Crews Cockrell (West Jones) whipped Roldan in No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-1.
In an extra match,
Nicholas Marengo (Forrest County AHS) defeated Levi Elkins, 7-5.
The Bobcats play at Belhaven and Millsaps on Friday before returning for an important conference match vs. No. 12 Mississippi Gulf Coast at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
