WESSON – The 12th-ranked Jones College Bobcats will be hosting the Region 23 Tournament again.
Jones clinched the MACCC crown with a 7-2 win at No. 16 Copiah-Lincoln here Friday at the C-L Tennis Complex.
Jones will host the Region 23 Tournament April 16-18.
The Bobcats are now 13-0 overall and 8-0 in the conference. They will host No. 11 Coastal Alabama-South at 1 p.m. Monday and will end league play with a 2 p.m. match on Tuesday at Itawamba.
The Wolves are now 7-4 overall, 6-2 in the MACCC.
Jones won two of the three doubles matches.
Ridge Jones (Northeast Jones) and
Felipe Morales (Ecuador) beat Nicholas Tozer and Jax Leggett in No. 2 doubles, 8-6, and
Ryan Roth (Resurrection Catholic) and
Reese Touchet (Madison Central) downed Lane Breland and James Rooks in No. 3 doubles, 8-2.
Tom Garrett (Australia) and
Juan Francisco Pereyra (Argentina) fell 4-8 in No. 1 doubles to Jake Bucek and Nikoloz Gurgenidze.
Pereyra rallied past Gurgenidze in No. 1 singles, 1-6, 6-2, 6-4. Garrett defeated Tozer in No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-4. Jones whipped Rooks in No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-2 and Roth beat Mason Brand in No. 5 singles, 7-5, 6-3.
Luke Westmoreland (Grenada) defeated Leggett in No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-1. Morales lost to Bucek in No. 3 singles, 6-2, 0-6, 1-6.
In extra matches,
Crews Cockrell (West Jones) beat Warren Lucio, 8-3, and
Nicholas Marengo (Forrest County AHS) lost to Breland, 5-8.
