Late-inning, game two magic helps No. 6 Jones sweep East Central

ELLISVILLE Madison Sawyer tossed a complete-game, six-hitter in the opener and Mabry Eason's go-ahead, three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth in game two helped No. 6 Jones College sweep East Central in its home-opener on Tuesday night at The Bank.

Jones improved to 24-5 overall, 3-1 MACCC and dropped ECCC to 15-8, 2-2 in league play.

Jones has a week off before traveling to new-No. 1 Pearl River on Wednesday, March 18 for a pair beginning at 4 p.m.

Jones 5, East Central 1

Tied at 1-1 into the fifth, Eason's RBI-single scored Claire Andersen and the Cats would score three more times in the inning to pull away for a 5-1 win.

Annaston Tate, Addy Shorter and Sawyer hit consecutive RBI-singles in the big inning.

Shorter was 3-for-3 to lead a 10-hit attack.

Sawyer allowed one run on six hits with nine strikeouts and two walks to improve to 10-1.

Jones 4, East Central 3

The Warriors led 3-0 in the fifth before Mary Kimble Price's solo home run sparked a four-run Jones comeback for a sweep.

EC led 1-0 after one on Brette Loftin's RBI-triple. They'd add a pair of RBI-singles in the fifth.

Price homered to lead off the bottom of the frame and pull within 3-1.

Morgan Taylor, who entered to play left field in the top of the sixth, drew a leadoff walk in the bottom half. Andersen then walked, and after a sac bunt from Chloe Jenkins, Eason blasted a three-run homer to right-center to put Jones ahead.

Abigail Lindsey tossed the final 2.2 frames in relief of Breelyn Cain and allowed no runs on four hits to get her third win.
