ELLISVILLE – Northeast snapped a five-game losing streak to No. 19 Jones Monday night by hitting 11 threes and shooting 56 percent in a 95-91 victory.
After winning 27 straight home games over a two-year span, Jones has lost three home games in the last three months and back-to-back.
"Give credit to where credit is due. Those guys came in here and played extremely hard," fifth-year head coach
Newton Mealer said. "Where I was really disappointed in, again, was our start to the first half. We are coming out with slow starts at home but are a different team on the road."
Jones fell to 18-7, 7-2 MACCC and is still very much in the hunt for a third straight conference championship. NEMCC improved to 14-9, 4-3 MACCC.
Braylon Barnes hit a leaning, buzzer-beating jumper just inside the three-point line to give Jones a 46-45 lead at the half.
Jones led by a game-high seven, 58-51, and had an open dunk to make it nine but turned it over to spark a Tiger run.
Northeast scored 15 of the next 19 points to lead 66-62 with 9:28 to play and never trailed again.
Jones got within 92-91 on Barnes' three-pointer with 3.3 ticks left but three free throws sealed it for the Tigers.
Four Tigers scored in double figures, led by Ezekiel Udozorth with 24 and Javion Stephen with 21.
NEMCC shot 56 percent, 11-of-19 from deep, and had 23 assists against eight turnovers. JC shot 55 percent.
Jay Tyler had 28 points, one shy of a career-high.
Bob Dickson added 19 points and eight rebounds, Barnes 16,
Dylan Rowe 13 and
Keron Jackson 11 points and nine boards.
