ELLISVILLE – Tootie Lockett's 15-footer as time expired lifted Itawamba to a 54-53 victory over Jones College here Monday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
Sanyla Smith (Tupelo) scored for the Bobcats on a putback with 0.8 seconds to play to give the Bobcats a 53-52 lead.
ICC called timeout and advanced the ball to midcourt in front of their bench. The inbounds pass was lobbed to Lockett and her shot hit the front of the rim, bounced off the backboard and through the net.
Jones falls to 16-4 overall, 5-2 in the MACCC. Itawamba is now 14-7 overall, 5-2 in conference play.
The game was close throughout with the Lady Indians leading 13-12 after the first quarter, 28-25 at halftime and 40-38 after three quarters.
ICC led 48-45 when
Jakera Ducksworth (West Jones) made two free throws with 2:01 to play. A
Larissa Hubbard (Harrison Central) layup gave Jones a 49-48 lead with 1:39 left.
Kelsi Dilworth hit a 3-pointer to put the Lady Indians ahead 51-49 with 55 seconds to play. Hubbard's layup tied it at 51-51 with 37 seconds to play.
Emarie Boddie made a free throw to put ICC up 52-51 with 16 seconds remaining. That set up the final hectic seconds of play.
Hubbard had 20 points and 10 rebounds, Ducksworth had 11 points and 10 rebounds and Smith had nine points and 11 rebounds to lead Jones.
Lockett finished with 22 points and nine rebounds for ICC. I'Xana Winters added 10 points. Boddie had 10 rebounds.
The Bobcats shot 31 percent and ICC was 33 percent.
The Bobcats out-rebounded ICC, 47-39, but committed 23 turnovers compared to 16 for Itawamba.
The Bobcats travel to Coahoma for a 5:30 p.m. Thursday contest.
