POPLARVILLE – Jones was outrebounded by a season-high 24 boards and allowed a pair of 20-point scorers in an 83-71 setback at Pearl River Thursday night at Marvin R. White Coliseum.
PRCC snapped a three-game losing skid to Jones in improving to 15-11, 7-4 MACCC. The Bobcats dropped to 20-8, 9-3 MACCC.
Jones closes out the home portion of its schedule Monday, Feb. 23 at 7:30 against Meridian on First State Bank Night.
Jones got out to an early 8-4 lead at the 15:34-mark, with four buckets from four different Bobcats.
But that's the only time they would enjoy a lead.
PRCC scored the next eight to push ahead 12-8 and stretched its lead to 11 with just over four minutes left in the half.
Keron Jackson and
Dylan Rowe each hit threes to spark a Bobcat run, however, to close the period on a 13-4 run and trail 36-34 at the break.
PRCC scored the first seven out of the half to stretch it to 43-34.
Trailing 57-45 with 10:44 to play, Jones hit five straight shots as part of a 12-2 run and got back within 59-57 on a Rowe three.
Six straight from the Wildcats essentially put the game out of reach.
Daijon Leatherman was not to be messed with in the second half for PRCC and continued to dominate the glass down the stretch. He would close with 20 points and 22 rebounds, just one less than Jones as a team.
Christian Gilliland finished with a game-high 27, one of four Wildcats in double figures.
Rowe had a team-high 18 points,
Jay Tyler 16 and
Braylon Barnes 13.
PRCC was plus-24 on the glass and also hit 25-of-30 free throws compared to 12-of-14 for Jones.
