ELLISVILLE – Jones College outscored Copiah-Lincoln 19-9 over the final 4:20 of the fourth quarter to post a 67-57 decision here Monday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
The Bobcats are now 18-6 overall, 7-4 in the MACCC. Co-Lin falls to 12-8 and 4-5.
The Bobcats were down 43-38 early in the fourth quarter. With the game tied at 48-48,
Larissa Hubbard (Harrison Central) made a layup to give the Bobcats the lead for good. That sparked an 8-0 run that ended when
Lamarah Cleaves (Tupelo) made a pair of free throws with 2:20 remaining to put Jones ahead, 56-48.
Eymani Key's jumper in the lane got the Lady Wolves within 56-52 with 1:30 to play, but a 3-point play by Cleaves gave Jones a 61-52 lead with 1:01 left.
The Bobcats led 19-11 after the opening quarter and 29-20 at halftime. But Co-Lin outscored Jones 19-9 in the third quarter and took a 39-38 entering the final period.
Cleaves post a big time double-double with 25 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Bobcats. She also had a team-leading four steals.
Jakera Ducksworth (West Jones) added 14 points and Hubbard had 10.
Maddison Mitchell led Co-Lin with 15 points, Kamaiyah Pruitt added 14 and Key finished with 10.
The Bobcats held a commanding 38-22 edge on points in the paint.
Jones made 20-of-51 shots from the field for 39 percent and 27-of-35 free throws for 77 percent. The Bobcats did not make a three-point shot in 10 attempts. Co-Lin was 21-of-56 from the floor for 38 percent, 6-of-20 from beyond the arc for 30 percent and 9-of-12 from the foul line for 75 percent.
Jones outrebounded the Lady Wolves, 38-33. The Bobcats committed 14 turnovers and forced Co-Lin into 20 turnovers. Jones had a 28-19 advantage on points off turnovers.
The Bobcats will go to Pearl River for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff on Thursday.
Their final regular season home game will be vs. Meridian on Feb. 23.
