ELLISVILLE – No. 14 Jones scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth, the game-winning single coming off the bat of
Brayden Quick, to walk-off Nunez 6-5 Wednesday night at Community Bank Park.
Jones moved to 8-1 on the year with a sixth straight win and remained unbeaten all time against the Pelicans in nine meetings.
Trailing 3-0 bottom four, Quick's sac fly scored
Chase Russell to get Jones on the board.
Sanders Ainsworth's two-run single down the left field line tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth and
Kelan Guidry's RBI-single up the middle gave the Bobcats their first lead, 4-3, in the sixth.
Logan Coley's two-run single in the top of the seventh helped Nunez (3-4) retake the lead going to the ninth.
Warren Hutchinson singled to start the inning,
Talan Theriot had a perfectly executed bunt single to first and both moved up on consecutive wild pitches. After Ainsworth was hit-by-pitch to put the go ahead run on,
Dylan Champagne was intentionally walked before Quick's walk-off single through the left side.
It was Jones' second walk-off win this year after beating No. 3 East Central, 7-5, in extra innings.
Drew Lambert tied a career high with six innings pitched, scattering five hits, five strikeouts and three runs.
Canyon Reeves (2-0) entered in a sticky situation in the seventh with two on and one out and was able to hold Nunez to just the one run.
Six Bobcats had multiple hits in a 13-hit attack, with Theriot's three hits leading the way.
Jones hosts Reid State on Friday in a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
