GULF SHORES, Ala. – No. 25 Jones College put together its best weekend of the season at the Gulf Coast Classic, sweeping four matches and dropping just one set over two days of play.
The Bobcats defeated Gadsden State 3-0 and Enterprise State 3-1 on Friday before returning Saturday with straight-set victories over Northwest Shoals and Southern Union State. Jones finished the weekend 4-0 and won 12 of the 13 sets it played.
Jones was dominant offensively throughout the tournament, totaling 170 kills against just 51 errors on 342 attacks for a .348 hitting percentage. The Bobcats held their four opponents to a combined .121 percentage and 101 kills. Jones also finished with advantages of 30-18 in service aces, 144-102 in digs and 26-16 in total blocks.
Myah Favre led a balanced Jones attack with 42 kills over 13 sets, averaging 3.23 kills per set while hitting .440. Izzi Barnes was just as efficient, putting down 36 kills with only eight errors in 59 attempts for a team-best .475 hitting percentage. Barnes averaged 2.77 kills per set and added 10 total blocks.
Selah Sandridge contributed 28 kills, while Amaya Wilson finished with 20 and hit .349. Addyson Sides had 15 kills in nine sets, and Jensi Doise added 13 kills while hitting .333.
Claire Wicker directed the offense with 100 assists, averaging 7.69 per set, while Keira Hariel added 43 assists in 11 sets. Olivia Guth led the back row with 46 digs and also served a team-high 13 aces. Wicker contributed 26 digs and six aces, while Favre added 25 digs and four aces.
Jones opened the weekend Friday with a tight 3-0 victory over Gadsden State. The Bobcats prevailed 25-22 and 25-23 in the opening two sets before completing the sweep with a 26-24 win in the third.
Enterprise State handed Jones its only set loss of the weekend later Friday. The Bobcats took the opener 25-17 before Enterprise responded with a 25-12 victory in the second. Jones quickly regained control, winning the final two sets 25-16 and 25-19 for the 3-1 victory.
The Bobcats were at their most dominant Saturday.
Jones rolled past Northwest Shoals 25-13, 25-16 and 25-17 before closing the tournament with another convincing sweep, defeating Southern Union State 25-12, 25-21 and 25-16.
Across the four matches, Jones averaged 13.08 kills and 12.31 assists per set while limiting its opponents to 7.77 kills per set. The Bobcats also averaged 2.31 aces and 2.00 blocks per set during the unbeaten weekend.
Jones travels to rival Gulf Coast Monday night for a 6 p.m. first serve looking to avenge a non-conference loss at home on Sept. 14.
