Bobcats run win streak to 11 over Holmes in 3-0 victory

RIDGELAND – Calvin Harrison scored twice in the opening half and No. 5 Jones College remained unbeaten with a 3-0 road victory over Holmes on Friday at Holmes-Ridgeland.

Harrison provided all the offense the Bobcats needed, scoring in the 14th minute before adding his second goal seconds before halftime.

Lyle Hardisty added an insurance goal late as Jones improved to 11-0-1 overall and 5-0 in conference play.

Jones has now won 11 consecutive meetings with Holmes dating back to 2013. The Bobcats entered Friday having won the previous 10 matchups in the series, including a 2-1 victory last season in Ellisville.

Jones controlled much of the match offensively, finishing with a 22-9 advantage in shots and putting nine attempts on goal. The Bobcats also generated eight corner kicks compared with three for Holmes.

The Bobcats carried their two-goal cushion deep into the second half before putting the match away in the 84th minute.

Sam Rogers set up Hardisty for Jones' third goal, with Hardisty finishing the chance for the final 3-0 margin. It was the only assisted goal recorded by the Bobcats in the match.

Goalkeeper Logan Correro stopped all five shots he faced over 90 minutes to record his fifth clean sheet. Holmes finished with nine total shots, five on goal, but was unable to break through against Correro and the Jones back line.

The Bobcats held Holmes to five shots in the first half and four after halftime while outshooting the Bulldogs 12-5 and 10-4, respectively. Jones was also whistled for just three fouls compared with 15 for Holmes in a match that did not feature a caution or ejection.

Holmes dropped to 5-7-1 overall and 0-4-1 in conference play with the loss.

Jones hosts Gulf Coast (4-5-1, 2-2 MACCC) on Tuesday at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $8 online through jcbobcats.com/tickets or $10 cash/$11 card at the entrance. The match will be live streamed at jcbobcats.com/watch.
