ELLISVILLE – Calvin Harrison scored in the 82nd minute to rescue a 3-3 draw for No. 4 Jones College against Mississippi Gulf Coast on Tuesday night at the Bobcat Soccer Complex, extending the Bobcats' unbeaten streak to 13 matches.
Jones (11-0-2, 5-0-1 MACCC) trailed 3-2 after Gulf Coast scored twice in a span of less than five minutes late in the second half, but Harrison provided the equalizer with 8:03 remaining.
The draw kept Jones unbeaten on the season and at home over the last 16 overall.
Gulf Coast (4-5-2, 2-2-1) struck first in the 11th minute before Jones responded with two unanswered goals to take a 2-1 advantage into halftime.
Lyle Hardisty's header pulled the Bobcats level in the 18th minute off a service from Harrison. Stanley Georgiou then put Jones in front at the 28:13 mark, finishing a nifty chance set up by Harry Guess.
Jones carried the one-goal advantage deep into the second half before the Bulldogs turned the match around in a five-minute stretch.
Mason Thompson tied it 2-2 in the 70th minute following a Gulf Coast corner kick. After the initial ball was punched away near the top of the 18-yard box, Thompson hammered a half-volley into the net.
Bas van Baardewijk gave Gulf Coast a 3-2 lead at the 74:19 mark. He stole the ball from a Jones defender as the Bobcats attempted to play out of the back, carried it into the box and finished to put the Bulldogs within minutes of handing Jones its first loss of the season.
The Bobcats answered.
Harrison scored his second point-producing goal of the night at 81:57, leveling the match at 3-3 and preserving Jones' unbeaten record.
Jones finished with a 14-8 advantage in shots and put eight attempts on goal. Harrison led the Bobcats with six shots, while Hardisty had three. Jones also held a 10-7 advantage in corner kicks.
Three-time MACCC Goalkeeper of the Week Logan Correro made four saves for the Bobcats.
Jones travels to East Central on Friday, Oct. 9 for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
