Jones tops MGCCC 3-1 behind dominant 90 minute performance

ELLISVILLE – No. 14 Jones College turned in a dominant 90 minutes in a 3-1 win over No. 13 Mississippi Gulf Coast Tuesday night at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.

Jones won its fourth straight to improve to 4-2 while MGCCC fell to 3-2.

Though the final shot tally was just 7-6 in favor of the Bobcats, Jones took control less than four minutes into the match.

Mario Novaku played a ball in to Braden Buchanan at the 18 where Buchanan made a defender miss and then touched the ball to Matt Reed for a 1-0 lead.

In the 21st minute, Parker Sellers' cross into the box found the head of Buchanan for a 2-0 lead that JC would take into the break.

Early in the second half, it was the head of Drew Raffaelle and free kick by Eskil Instebø that connected for a 3-0 lead in the 53rd minute.

With the match out of reach, MGCCC avoided a shutout when Alexander Mink scored off a rebound save from Trey Roche's shot.

Jones hosts Northeast Alabama in the first-ever meeting between the two sides at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11.

Tickets are $7 online at jcbobcats.com/tickets or $10 cash only at the entrance.
