ELLISVILLE – In a constant rain at the Bobcat Soccer Complex Friday afternoon, No. 10 Jones and NJCAA Division III No. 3 Dallas College Brookhaven played to a 1-1 draw.
Jones moved to 2-0-1 after playing a third consecutive ranked team to start the year and the Bears moved to 1-0-2.
Jameyah Hubbard's first collegiate goal gave the Bobcats a 1-0 lead just five minutes in off a
Sherline King assist.
Dallas College would draw even in the 28th minute on an unlucky whistle. A ball into the box was deflected off the arm of a Bobcat defender and a PK was called.
Kate Carlson stepped up and tied the match 1-1.
Jones had numerous chances in the second half, the first coming in the 47th minute.
Nadia Sobel had a wide-open chance at the net on a cross into the box, but sailed it high over the bar.
The Bobcats later hit the crossbar and had another shot just skip wide of the net.
Jones outshot Dallas College 8-3 in the second half but couldn't find the go-ahead goal.
Jennifer Huerzeler had five saves in the first 45 minutes and
Sara Kate Jefcoat made a great one in the second half to keep the match tied. It was the only shot she faced, a free kick on the edge of the box.
Jones travels to the Memphis Sports & Events Center on Tuesday, Sept. 2 for a matchup with Southwestern Illinois College.
