MOORHEAD – The official
Lytrel Pollard Era began in dominating fashion here on a rainy Thursday night at Jim Randall Stadium.
Jones College outgained Mississippi Delta in total offense 456 yards to 42 and overwhelmed the Trojans, 33-0. Pollard was officially named head coach in December after serving as interim coach for the final two games of 2024.
The Bobcats had 17 first downs and limited MDCC to four – two of which came by penalty.
Defensively, Jones had nine tackles for loss and three sacks.
The only time MDCC entered Jones territory was in the third quarter when they took over at the Bobcat 30-yard line after a short punt. The Trojans lost 10 yards in three plays and punted the ball back to Jones.
Quarterback
Cannon Crowder (Presbyterian Christian School) completed 7-of-11 passes for 212 yards and one touchdown and rushed four times for 42 yards.
TK Keyes (Taylorsville) had four catches for 93 yards and
Kaiden Smith (Oak Grove) had a 93-yard scoring reception.
Ky'Yon Harris (Union) carried nine times for 53 yards and three touchdowns – all in the first half.
Dalyn Pierce (Bay Springs) had six total tackles with
Jeremiah Tatum (Columbia),
Isaiah Lindsey (West Jones),
Jamar Pittman (Oak Grove),
AJ Parker (MRA),
Ny'zavion McClendon (Lake) and
Cam Toney (West Jones) each had four stops.
Delarrius Hayes (Magee) had 2.5 tackles for loss and two sacks.
KeVon Ford (Moss Point) had a fumble recovery.
Jones took the opening kickoff and went 65 yards in five plays. Crowder hit Keyes for a 44-yard completion on the first play from scrimmage. Harris then carried four straight times, capped by a 10-yard touchdown run.
Christian Baglione (Northwest Rankin) kicked the extra point and Jones led 7-0 with 12:27 left in the first quarter.
The Bobcats then drove 55 yards in six plays on its next possession with Harris scoring on a 2-yard run. Baglione's extra point made it 14-0 with 8:22 to play in the opening period.
Baglione's 35-yard field goal ended a 54-yard, nine-play march and put Jones ahead 17-0 with 8:37 left in the second quarter.
Jones then went 62 yards in five plays on its next possession with Harris scoring on a 7-yard run. The extra point attempt failed, but the Bobcats led 23-0 with 4:22 remaining in the first half.
Midway through the third quarter the Bobcats started a drive on its own 3-yard.
Santae McWilliams Jr. (Saraland, Ala.) rushed for four yards and on the next play Crowder connected with Smith for a 93-yard touchdown pass. Baglione's kick made it 30-0 with 7:16 left in the third quarter.
Baglione's 25-yard field goal capped a 46-yard, nine-play drive and ended the scoring with 8:23 left in the game.
Jones will head back to north Mississippi again next week when they visit Coahoma in Clarksdale. Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 4 with Mark Easley and Chuck Robertson on the call. The game will air on jcbobcats.com/watch.
