Jones drops a pair in Poplarville

POPLARVILLE – Jones closed out the road portion of its 2025 conference schedule with a pair of losses to Pearl River Wednesday afternoon.

PRCC scored the final nine runs in a 9-1 win in the opener and then walked off the Bobcats, 3-2, in the nightcap in eight innings.

Jones hosts East Central Tuesday afternoon at Community Bank Park with the opportunity to clinch a regional host spot with a sweep. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3 p.m.

Pearl River 9, Jones 1

Dominick Regira's solo home run had Jones on top 1-0 through three but the Wildcats scored the next nine and spoiled another solid Josh Lee start.

Jaxon Milam's two-run homer in the fifth opened up a 4-1 lead and Max Miller allowed just one hit the final 3.2 innings to shut down any chance of a Bobcat comeback.

Evan Rogers, Brice Ainsworth and Regira each collected multiple hits.

Lee suffered his first loss of the year to drop to 6-1, scattering seven hits, three earned runs and five strikeotus over 5.1 frames.

Pearl River 3, Jones 2 (8 inn.)

After Jones scratched across two runs in the sixth to tie the game, the Wildcats got a bases-loaded wild pitch in the eighth to sweep the day.

Andrew Marble tossed a season-high seven innings and punched out seven in a no-decision.

Topher Jones hit a two-run homer in the first off Marble, but he would shove the final six frames.

Braden Smith's two-out, two-run single to right field tied the game at 2-2 in the sixth.

The Wildcats, however, would get a leadoff hit-by-pitch, double and intentional walk to put the winning run at third in the bottom of the eighth and a wild pitch plated the game-winner.
