HANCEVILLE, Ala. – Ninth-ranked Jones College closed regular season play at 17-0 with an impressive 8-1 victory over Wallace State-Hanceville here Friday afternoon.
It's a second consecutive unbeaten season for Jones, who went 22-0 in 2024. It was the first loss of the season for the Lions (15-1).
The Bobcats, MACCC and Region 23 champions, will now turn their attention to the NJCAA Division I Tournament May 3-7 in Tyler, Texas.
The Bobcats won all of the doubles matches.
Helen Hernandez (Venezuela) and
Molly Bennett (Madison Central) blanked Noelle D'Angelillo and Sophia Baillos in No. 1 doubles, 8-0, and
Theresa Emelio (Australia) and
Maria Martinez (Argentina) defeated Indira Wilson and Chloe Baines in No. 2 doubles, 8-4.
Ansley Tomkins (Northwest Rankin) and
Josie Tullos (Newton County) won No. 3 doubles by default.
Hernandez beat D'Angelillo in No. 1 singles, 6-1, 7-5 and Bennett lost to Baillos in No. 2 singles, 3-6, 5-7. Emelio defeated Wilson in No. 3 singles, 7-6 (retired) and Tomkins shut out Baines in No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Annabelle Simmons (Lamar School) blanked Joslyn Newton in No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-0 and
Hannah Hupe (Laurel Christian School) won No. 6 singles by default.
Simmons' 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles clinched the match.
