Ten-run seventh powers No. 8 Jones to sweep at Southwest

SUMMIT – A 10-run seventh explosion in game one and an Andrew Marble strong outing in the finale powered No. 8 Jones to a sweep at Southwest Tuesday afternoon.

Jones improved to 31-10, 17-5 in the MACCC where they are currently third in the standings. Southwest fell to 19-29, 9-11 in league play.

The Bobcats head to Moorhead on Friday for a noon doubleheader against Mississippi Delta.

Jones 12, Southwest 1 (7 inn.)

What was a 2-1 Bobcat lead entering the seventh exploded into a 10-run frame and run-rule in the opener.

A Bear error allowed two runs to score in the top of the first to put Jones on the board early.

Southwest cut the deficit in half in the third on a Bobcat error.

Scoreless through the next three frames, the seventh opened as a 2-1 Jones lead.

Cole Manuel blasted a bases-clearing double to open up a 5-1 lead and was followed by RBI-doubles from Brice Ainsworth and Dominick Regira and Preston Scott's first collegiate home run.

Micah Daniell worked a season-high six innings, allowing three hits and one unearned run before a Drew Lambert scoreless seventh closed the run-rule win.

Nine Bobcats combined for their 12 hits. Talan Theriot, TJ Dunsford and Braden Smith had two hits each.

Jones 4, Southwest 2

Jones scored all four of its runs in the third inning, using a two-run double by Chase Russell and two-run homer by Manuel, to close out a sweep.

A solo homer for the Bears gave them a 1-0 lead after one.

Southwest threatened in the bottom of the seventh trailing 4-1, loading the bases with only one out. A bases-loaded hit-by-pitch cut the lead to 4-2 before Caden Freeman was able to get a groundout for his NJCAA-leading eighth save.

Marble worked 5.1 innings allowing one run on four hits.
