Jones run-rules Holmes twice

GOODMAN – Makynlie Jones and Jayden Sawyer each homered twice and drove in seven as No. 3 Jones run-ruled Holmes by 10-0 and 15-3 finals Saturday afternoon.

Jones improved to 38-7 overall and 16-4 in MACCC play with six regular season games left, all at Community Bank Park.

The Bobcats have won 38 straight in the series with the Lady Bulldogs going back to 2007.

Jones 10, Holmes 0 (6 inn.)

Jones, Sawyer and Emily Mizelle all homered and Breelyn Cain tossed a two-hit shutout in a game one shutout win.

The Bobcats jumped on top 5-0 in the first. Jones hit a two-run homer, Meredith Fontenot had an RBI-double and Sawyer closed out the scoring with a two-run blast.

After single runs in the third and fourth innings, Jones tacked on three more in the sixth with a ground-rule double for Jones and Emily Mizelle's two-run homer.

Jones 15, Holmes 3 (5 inn.)

After falling behind 3-0 in the first inning on a trio of RBI-singles, the Bobcats scored 15 unanswered to end it in five.

Sawyer got Jones on the board in the second with a solo shot and Anna Grace Whitehead's two-run homer tied it at 3-3. Brooklynn Montana's double off the wall put the Bobcats ahead for good, 4-3.

Ten of Jones' 15 hits went for extra bases. Montana and Dampeer doubled twice and Jones, Sawyer and Whitehead all homered.

Whitehead allowed three in the first but tossed four shutout frames to improve to 8-0 in the circle.
