ELLISVILLE –
Makynlie Jones hit a bases-loaded RBI-single to help Jones walk off Southwest, 3-2, in the opener and
Jayden Sawyer tossed a 14-strikeout no-hitter in the nightcap to help the Bobcats sweep the Lady Bears Wednesday night.
Jones improved to 40-7 overall, 18-4 in conference play while Southwest dropped to 13-27, 7-15 in the MACCC.
The Bobcats continue a six-game homestand on Friday with a 1 p.m. first pitch against Mississippi Delta.
Jones 3, Southwest 2
Southwest tied the game in the top of the seventh on a two-run homer only to see Mak. Jones drop a one-out bloop single into right-center in the bottom half for a walk-off victory.
Emily Mizelle and Jones had RBI-singles in the first and third innings to give Jones a 2-0 lead through three.
Scoreless through the next three innings, Kat Clements followed a leadoff walk with a two-run homer to tie the game.
A
Kaleigh Steverson single and back-to-back walks loaded the bases for Jones who picked up her team-high 79th RBI for the win.
Breelyn Cain made the one mistake in the seventh but allowed only five hits with seven strikeouts and two walks in a complete-game effort to improve to 12-4 in the circle.
Jones 5, Southwest 0
Part of a combined no-hitter at Southwest a year ago, this time Sawyer had one all to herself.
Sawyer punched out 14 Lady Bears against two walks and got homers by
Lillian Evans and Mizelle in the fourth and fifth to provide the offense she needed.
Mizelle's sac fly in the third opened the scoring.
Evans' three-run homer off the foul pole in left made it 4-0 in the fourth and Mizelle hit her 18th in the fifth.
Anna Grace Whitehead also doubled.
