ELLISVILLE – No. 10 Jones College will go for its fifth straight NJCAA Women's Region 23 Championship Saturday.
The top-seeded Bobcats blanked No. 4 seed Northwest, 5-0, Friday morning at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
No. 2 seed Mississippi Gulf Coast defeated No. 3 seed Meridian 5-1 in the other semifinal.
The Bobcats (15-0) and Bulldogs (12-1) will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday for the championship. Meridian faces Northwest at 2 p.m. in the third place match. The top three teams head to the NJCAA Tournament May 3-7 in Tyler, Texas.
Jones took just less than two hours to beat the No. 21 Lady Rangers.
Molly Bennett and
Helen Hernandez shut out Macarena Arisio and Claudia Lopez Chaparro in No. 1 doubles, 8-0.
Theresa Emelio and
Maria Martinez beat Laura Camara Blanco and Mattison Sanders in No. 2 doubles, 8-5, and
Ansley Tomkins and
Josie Tullos defeated Margaret Daves and Allie Rawles in No. 3 doubles, 8-3.
Martinez blanked Blanco in No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-0, and Emelio clinched it with a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Sanders in No. 4 singles.
Jones beat MGCCC 7-2 on March 11 during regular season play.
