ELLISVILLE – The 14th-rated Jones College Bobcats have done it again.
The Bobcats clinched the MACCC title with an 8-1 victory over Northwest here Friday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex. Jones is now 14-4 overall and 9-0 in conference play. The Bobcats own the tiebreaker over second-place Mississippi Gulf Coast, which gives them the top spot in the league.
Jones can clinch the outright MACCC championship with a home victory over No. 19 Meridian on Tuesday.
The Bobcats will host the men's Region 23 Tournament April 24-26.
The Bobcats swept the doubles points.
Tom Garrett (Australia) and
Matias Ruiz (Argentina) beat Luca Morris and Joshua Tedford in No. 1 doubles, 8-2, and
Diego Castellanos (Bolivia) and
Alex Holder (Madison Central) defeated Holden Cooke and Miguel Lazaga Robayna in No. 2 doubles, 8-3.
Ridge Jones (Northeast Jones) and
Reese Touchet (Madison Central) downed Gabriel Koonce and Cole Stoddard in No. 3 doubles, 8-4.
Ruiz whipped Morris in No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-0 and Garrett downed Robayna in No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-3. Castellanos beat Cooke in No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-4 and Jones lost a close one to Stoddard in No. 4 singles, 6-3, 5-7, 0-1 (9-11). Holder defeated Tedford in No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-1 and
Luke Westmoreland (Grenada) downed Brady Holliman in No. 6 singles, 6-3, 7-5.
