ELLISVILLE – The 14th-ranked Jones College Bobcats captured the outright MACCC championship with an 8-1 victory over No. 19 Meridian here Tuesday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
It is the fourth straight conference title for the Bobcats.
Jones is now 15-4 overall and ends league play at 10-0. They will host Coastal Alabama-South at 1 p.m. Friday.
The Bobcats will host the men's Region 23 Tournament April 24-26.
Jones swept the doubles matches.
Matias Ruiz (Argentina) and
Tom Garrett (Australia) beat Simon Ojeda and Daniel Espin in No. 1 doubles, 8-5.
Diego Castellanos (Bolivia) and
Alex Holder (Madison Central) defeated Badlwim Escobar and Blakeney Allen in No. 2 doubles, 8-3 and
Ridge Jones (Northeast Jones) and
Reese Touchet (Madison Central) whipped Mark Little and Laike Satterfield in No. 3 doubles, 8-1.
Ruiz beat Ojeda in No. 1 singles, 6-3, 7-5 and Garrett outlasted Escobar in No. 2 singles, 7-6, 3-6, 1-0 (10-4). Castellanos fell to Espin in No. 3 singles, 4-6, 1-6 and Holder whipped Little in No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-0. Jones downed Jack Tutor in No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-0 and
Luke Westmoreland (Grenada) defeated Allen in No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-0.
