ELLISVILLE – Back home for the first time in a month, No. 1 Jones run-ruled No. 16 North Iowa Area in the opener and needed an
Emily Mizelle walk-off double in the 10th of game two to sweep a pair on Sunday at The Bank.
Jones extended its winning streak to 11 games in improving to 20-3.
The Bobcats will host Lansing and Kankakee on Tuesday, March 4 in a round robin. Lansing and Kankakee play at 9 a.m., Jones will play the 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. games.
Jones 11, NIACC 3 (6 inn.)
Jayden Sawyer homered in her first two plate appearances,
Makynlie Jones homered in the fifth and Mizelle was 3-for-4 to lead Jones to a run-rule start.
With Jones leading 3-0 in the third, Mya Bunkers' solo shot got the Trojans on the board.
After the Bobcats pushed the lead back to 6-1, a two-run double for Thea Mattson cut it to 6-3.
Mizelle's single and
Lillian Evans' two-run double made it 9-3.
Jones' homer in the fifth and
Breelyn Cain's RBI-single in the sixth walked it off for Jones in six.
Anna Grace Whitehead got the win, 6-0, in four innings after allowing three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts. Cain tossed two scoreless in relief.
Jones 5, NIACC 4 (10 inn.)
The Trojans scored three runs in the top of the seventh to force extras before Mizelle's 10th inning double scored Mak. Jones for the walk-off.
Bunkers' solo shot, her second of the day, gave NIACC a 1-0 lead in the fourth.
Mak. Jones tied it at 1-1 in the fifth with her solo shot and a fielding error would make it 2-1 Bobcats.
Jones homered again in the sixth to extend the lead to 4-1 before an Ella Trenkamp two-run double and a single tied it at 4-4.
NIACC went down in order in the 10th. Jones singled to start the bottom half and Sawyer ground out out to put the winning run at second before Mizelle's walk-off double in the gap.
Jones was 4-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs. Mizelle added three hits and
Claire Andersen two.
Ava Prejean improved to 8-0 in a complete game. She scattered five hits, four runs, seven walks and nine strikeouts.
