Jones battles hard with five ranked foes in TJC Invitational

TYLER, Texas – The No. 14 Jones College Bobcats played five ranked opponents over the weekend here at the Tyler Junior College Spring Break Invitational.
 
The Bobcats found the going tough vs. the top-flight competition, posting a 1-4 mark. 
 
Jones defeated No. 16 Jacksonville College (Texas), 8-1. Jones lost to top-ranked Tyler, 8-1; No. 7 Cowley College (Kansas), 7-2; No. 5 Collin College (Texas), 9-0; and No. 11 Weatherford College (Texas), 5-4.
 
The Bobcats, 12-4, resume MACCC play at home on March 25 vs. No. 18 Copiah-Lincoln and at home on March 28 vs. Northwest.
 
Jones 8, Jacksonville 1
 
Jones won all of the doubles points.
 
Matias Ruiz (Argentina) and Tom Garrett (Australia) beat Silvio Morais and Thompson Thomu in No. 1 doubles, 8-2, and Alex Holder (Madison Central) and Diego Castellanos (Bolivia) beat Conner Hubbert and Rayare Sarhaji in No. 2 doubles, 8-2. Ridge Jones (Northeast Jones) and Reese Touchet (Madison Central) won No. 3 doubles by default.
 
Garrett beat Thomu in No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-4 and Castellanos beat Sarhaji in No. 2 singles, 7-5, 6-2. Holder fell to Morais in No. 3 singles, 4-6, 4-6 and Jones defeated Hubbert in No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-3. Luke Westmoreland (Grenada) outlasted Juan Acevado in No. 5 singles, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (7) and Ryan Roth (Resurrection Catholic) won No. 6 singles by default.

Ruiz picked up JC's only win in No. 1 singles. He defeated Daniel Jankoski, 7-5, 7-6 (3).
 
Garrett lost to Daniel Borisov in No. 2 singles, 3-6, 4-6 and Castellanos lost to Daniel Marincas in No. 3 singles, 0-6, 1-6. Holder fell to Jacopo Cianfarini in No. 4 singles, 3-6, 1-6; Jones lost to Alexander Morris in No. 5 singles, 3-6, 2-6 and Westmoreland lost 0-6, 0-6 in No. 6 singles to Alejandro Pardo.
 
Ruiz and Garrett lost 5-8 in No. 1 doubles to Alex Despoja and Rocisou, Holder and Castellanos fell 2-8 in No. 2 doubles to Doni Gashi and Jarkoski and Touchet and Jones lost 1-8 to Marincas and Morris in No. 3 doubles.

Ruiz and Garrett won No. 1 doubles over Valentin Greco and Felipe Garla, 8-6, and Ruiz beat Garla in No. 1 singles, 6-2, 7-5 for the Bobcat wins.
 
Castellanos and Holder fell 2-8 in No. 2 doubles to Juwan Bae and Dan Hosono and Touchet and Jones lost 0-8 in No. 3 doubles to David de Hoyos Rodriguez and Pedro de la Riva.
 
Garrett lost 3-6, 2-6 in No. 2 singles to de la Riva and Castellanos fell 0-6, 1-6 to Greco in No. 3 singles. Holder lost 3-6, 2-6 in No. 4 singles to Bae and Westmoreland lost in No. 5 singles to Isaac Gonzalez, 1-6, 2-6. Roth fell 3-6, 2-6 in No. 6 singles to Guilherme Coelho.

Ruiz and Garret lost 5-8 in No. 1 doubles to Jose Castillo and Minjae Kim. Castellanos and Holder fell to Cem Atlamis and Enrique Doldan Sisa 3-8 in No. 2 doubles and Jones and Touchet lost to Santiago Martinez and Luke Stula Takumi in No. 3 doubles, 5-8.
 
Ruiz dropped a close one in No. 1 singles to Kim, 5-7, 6-4, 0-1 (7-10) and Garrett fell to Atlamis in No. 2 singles, 5-7, 2-6. Castellanos lost to Castillo in No. 3 singles, 3-6, 0-6 and Jones lost to Doldan Sisa in No. 4 singles, 1-6, 1-6. Touchet lost to Cristobal Tellez in No. 5 singles, 1-6, 1-6 and Roth fell to Takumi in No. 6 singles, 1-6, 0-6.
 
Weatherford 5, Jones 4
 
The Bobcats won two doubles matches.
 
Ruiz and Garrett defeated Alexis Leguizamon and Emmanuel Jebutu, 8-3, in No. 1 doubles and Jones and Touchet downed Christopher Schlossman and Omar Hamzaoui in No. 3 doubles, 8-5. Castellanos and Holder fell 5-8 to Marko Filipovic and Andres Serrano in No. 2 doubles.
 
Ruiz beat Leguizamon in No. 1 singles, 6-2, 7-5. Castellanos outlasted Schlossman in No. 3 singles, 6-4, 5-7, 10-6. Garrett lost 4-6, 1-6 in No. 2 singles to Jebutu and Jones lost a lengthy match in No. 4 singles to Filipovic, 4-6, 6-4, 8-10. Holder fell to Serrano in No. 5 singles, 0-6, 3-6 and Roth lost to Austin Lewis in No. 6 singles, 1-6, 2-6.
