ELLISVILLE – Bobcat starters scored all but four points as No. 4 Jones pulled away from a five-point halftime lead for an 87-70 victory in Monday's region quarterfinal game against Baton Rouge.
Jones, now 28-3 overall, improved to 16-0 at home and has won 14 in a row. BRCC ended its season with a school-record 20-9 finish.
The Bobcats will host Northeast on Wednesday, March 12 at 7:30 with a trip to the region finals on the line.
Trailing 31-26 with 9:03 to play in the opening half, a steal and layup by
Ky Pernell jumpstarted a 7-0 run.
Tied 37-37,
Dimp Pernell scored five straight points to put Jones ahead, 42-37, and they would hold that lead the final 23 minutes of the night.
BRCC got as close as 55-53 with 15:29 left on Imran Deen's dunk, but Jones countered with a 12-4 run to go up double digits.
Avery Thomas II scored 14 of his 24 in the second half and finished with a 24-10 double-double, his sixth of his freshman campaign.
Jones shot 46 percent against 41 for BRCC. The teams were dead even on the boards at 38 apiece. The Bears committed 12 turnovers against six for Jones.
Behind Thomas' 24, Ky had 22 to go over the 1,000-point mark for his career, Dimp had 18 and
LJ Hackman 17 points, seven assists and six rebounds.
Courtney McCarthy and Awak Machar had 21 each to lead the Bears.
