PANAMA CITY, Fla. – Wins over NJCAA Division I No. 1 St. Johns River State and No. 4 Northwest Florida State highlighted a 2-2 weekend at the PCB JUCO Softball Showdown.
Jones moved to 9-3 in the midst of 17 consecutive games away from home.
The Bobcats travel to Gulf Shores Feb. 14-15 for the annual Coastal Alabama Coyote Classic.
Daytona State 7, Jones 2
The Falcons remained unbeaten through seven games behind a three-hitter and eight strikeouts from Ava Unser.
Daytona State held Jones off the scoreboard until the sixth inning when
Jayden Sawyer belted a two-run homer.
Emily Mizelle had two of Jones' three hits.
Breelyn Cain walked eight and hit one in the loss to drop to 1-2 in the circle.
Jones 4, NW Florida State 3
Anna Grace Whitehead tossed a complete game in the circle and delivered the go-ahead RBI off the centerfield wall in the seventh to lift Jones to a big victory over the Raiders.
Makynlie Jones hit her fourth home run in five games and
Addy Shorter and
Laney Little each doubled.
Whitehead scattered seven hits, three runs and a strikeout to move to 3-0.
Jones 7, St. Johns River 2
The Bobcats followed up a big win over NWF with an upset of the defending national champion Vikings to open Saturday play.
SJR scored two in the top of the first on a bases-loaded walk and groundout, but Jones would score seven unanswered to close the game.
Jones took the lead in the first with three runs of its own, using Mizelle's fielder's choice and an RBI-single from
Meredith Fontenot.
Sawyer doubled in the second to add to the lead and
Kaleigh Steverson went yard in the third to make it 6-2 Jones through three.
Ava Prejean went the distance with five strikeouts, four walks and three hits allowed.
Wallace State-Hanceville 11, Jones 7
Jones couldn't outscore the Lions' offense in a slugfest to close the weekend.
Five of Wallace State's 12 hits went for extra bases, with Kaelyn Jones missing a cycle by a home run.
Claire Andersen was 4-for-4 in the leadoff spot.
Cain was touched for seven runs in four innings, giving way to
Mikayla Baumgartner.
