GULF SHORES, Ala. – Two superb pitching performances by
Anna Grace Whitehead and
Ava Prejean powered No. 4 Jones to 5-1 and 2-1 wins Friday afternoon at the Coastal Alabama Coyote Classic.
Jones improved to 11-3 in the midst of a 17-game road swing.
The Bobcats play Lamar State-Port Arthur at 1:30 Saturday and Moberly Area at 3:45. Live stats are available for both games via jcbobcats.com.

Makynlie Jones and
Jayden Sawyer hit back-to-back homers in the fifth to pull away from a 2-1 lead and Whitehead went the distance in the circle.
Sawyer's sac fly gave Jones a 1-0 lead in the first after
Claire Andersen walked, stole second and third and scored. Jones' RBI-single made it 2-0 in the third.
The Pirates cut the lead in half in the fourth on a fielding error at first.
The back-to-back homers pushed the final margin to 5-1.
Whitehead scattered four hits, one unearned run and three strikeouts to improve to 4-0.
Jones 2, Gulf Coast State 1
Prejean punched out a career-best nine Commodores and
Emily Mizelle's infield single in the fifth plated Mak. Jones for the go-ahead run.
Ally Henderson's RBI-double in the first gave GSC the early 1-0 lead, but Prejean would hang six straight zeros after that.
Laney Little's RBI-single through the right side tied the game at 1-1 in the second.
Eight different Bobcats combined for their 10 hits.
Addy Shorter had two and
Marlee Dampeer had two.
Prejean improved to 5-0, scattering four hits, a run, four walks and the aforementioned nine strikeouts.
