Jones extends MACCC win streak to 11, stays perfect at home

ELLISVILLE – It was a long night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium but worth the wait for Bobcat fans.

With the start time delayed nearly three hours for travel issues for Coahoma and a clock malfunction prior to tip, the final horn blew just before midnight in an 83-73 JC win.

Jones extended its MACCC winning streak to 11 games and stayed unbeaten at home at 14-0.

Coahoma dropped to 15-11, 5-7 but put up one heck of a fight.

The Bobcats came out hot, scoring the first eight points of the game to force a Tiger timeout.

CCC would settle in to tie the game at 16-16 on Ricarvis Waters' three-pointer and took its first lead a basket later.

The teams traded baskets the final seven minutes of the half and Jones took a slim, 37-34 lead into intermission.

It stayed tight the first five minutes of the second half until back-to-back three-pointers by LJ Hackman and Ky Pernell pushed the lead out to 56-45 with 14:45 left.

The Tigers wouldn't get any closer than six the rest of the game despite a monster night from Louzavious Thomas who had 19 of his game-high 29 in the second period.

After going 0-for-4 with two points in the first half, Hackman went off himself.

The Southern Miss signee scored 22 of his 24 points in the second half, going 6-for-7 from the floor and 8-of-8 from the charity stripe.

Jay Tyler played extended minutes with several Bobcats in foul trouble, recording a season-high 27 while scoring eight points and dishing out three assists. Ky finished with 16, Dimp Pernell 12 and Amillion Buggs 10 points, eight rebounds and four blocks.

Jones shot it 61 percent the second half and finished 46 percent from the floor. CCC shot it 37 percent and won the rebound battle, 41-33.

The Bobcats go to East Central Thursday, Feb. 27 for a 7:30 tip at Brackeen-Wood Gymnasium.
