ELLISVILLE – The No. 13 Jones College Bobcats began MACCC play with a 9-0 win over No. 17 Itawamba here Tuesday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
It was a rematch of last year's Region 23 Championship match which was also won by the Bobcats.
In No. 1 doubles,
Matias Ruiz (Argentina) and
Tom Garrett (Australia) beat Joan Ramis and Knox Waterer, 8-6, and
Diego Castellanos (Bolivia) and
Alex Holder (Madison Central) defeated Santiago Diaz and Luca Hoffman in No. 2 doubles, 8-4.
Reese Touchet (Madison Central) and
Ridge Jones (Northeast Jones) edged Ben Orr and Sawyer Ritchie in No. 3 doubles, 9-7.
Ruiz beat Ramis in No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-3 and Garrett downed Waterer in No. 2 singles, 6-4, 7-5. Castellanos whipped Diaz in No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-1 and Holder hammered Hoffman in No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Jones defeated Orr in No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-2 and
Luke Westmoreland (Grenada) beat Ritchie in No. 6 singles, 7-6 (3), 6-2.
The Bobcats, 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the MACCC, host No. 14 Coastal Alabama-South at 1 p.m. Thursday and visit Southwest on Friday.
