ELLISVILLE – The No. 10 Jones College Bobcats shut out No. 23 East Central 9-0 here Monday afternoon in their opening home match at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
Jones started off by sweeping the doubles matches.
Helen Hernandez (Venezuela) and
Molly Bennett (Madison Central) beat Ivanna De Gregorio and Nil Kalkavan in No. 1 doubles, 8-2 and
Theresa Emelio (Australia) and
Maria Martinez (Argentina) whipped Addy Lea Page and Isabella Estrada Avila in No. 2 doubles, 8-1.
Josie Tullos (Newton County) and
Ansley Tomkins (Northwest Rankin) blanked Noelle Howell and Jaci Willis in No. 3 doubles, 8-0.
Hernandez beat De Gregorio in No. 1 singles, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 in No. 1 singles and Bennett beat KalKavan, 6-3, 6-4 in No. 2 singles. Martinez downed Avila in No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-2 and Emelio blanked Howell in No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Annabelle Simmons (Lamar School) shut out Page in No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-0 and Tomkins whipped Kinsley Johnson in No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
The Bobcats are 2-0 on the season and will host tawamba in the MACCC opener at 2 p.m. on Feb. 18.
