ELLISVILLE – The 13th-ranked Jones College Bobcats defeated No. 24 East Central 8-1 here Monday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
Jones began the match with three wins doubles.
Matias Ruiz (Argentina) and
Tom Garrett (Australia) beat Jeronigo Avango and Luis Rios in No. 1 doubles, 8-2.
Diego Castellanos (Bolivia) and
Alex Holder (Madison Central) whipped Tate Baucum and Luke Bruntlett in No. 2 doubles, 8-2, and
Reese Touchet (Madison Central) and
Ridge Jones (Northeast Jones) defeated Cade Cooley and Thomas Sumrall in No. 3 doubles, 8-2.
Ruiz beat Avango in No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-3 and Castellanos downed Baucum in No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-2. Holder blanked Bruntlett in No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0 and Jones whipped Cooley in No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-1.
Luke Westmoreland (Grenada) shut out Sumrall in No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Garrett lost to Rios in No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-7 (1) and 0-1 (6).
The Bobcats No. 17 Itawamba at 2 p.m. on Feb. 18 in the MACCC opener.
