TANNER, Ala. – Playing for the automatic bid to Iowa and the NJCAA Tournament on Saturday afternoon, host and 20th ranked Calhoun topped No. 21 Jones, 3-1, to claim the Gulf South District Championship.
In a matchup of two very compatible teams, the Warhawks won 22-25, 26-24, 25-21 and 25-23.
Jones, 30-5, hit .294 for the match against .278 for Calhoun, who improved to 31-3.
Harmony Jackson had a team-high 22 kills, followed by
Jensi Doise with a season-high 15 and
Chelsea Daffin with 11.
Mamie Fromdahl had a season-high 52 assists and
Olivia Guth a season-high 29 digs.
Calhoun was led by Avery Boyd's 25 kills and 16 digs.
Jones will now have to wait and see if it did enough to earn a spot in the national tournament.
