ELLISVILLE – There were many good performances for No. 6 Jones College in its 112-86 victory over South Arkansas College here Thursday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
But one stat line stood out above the others.
Bob Dickson, a 6-foot-7 freshman forward from Southaven, posted a monster triple-double with 16 points, 27 rebounds and 10 assists to highlight the Bobcat victory. He also added four steals and four blocked shots.
Jones was pretty much in control from the start.
The Bobcats took their longest lead of the first half at 42-21 with 3:52 showing when
Dylan Rowe (Madison Central) got a dunk. But the Stars used a 16-5 run to close within 47-39 at halftime.
Jones began to reassert itself in the second half and took a 74-57 lead with 11:20 to play on a
Braylon Barnes (Brandon) layup off an assist by Dickson.
The Bobcats continued the pressure and eventually took its longest lead at 110-80 on a 3-pointer by
Riley Walton (PCS) with 28 seconds to play. Jones outscored South Arkansas 65-47 in the second half.
Barnes led the Bobcats with 25 points with Rowe and
Wesley Lindsey (Central Hinds Academy) adding 14 points each.
Jay Tyler (Oxford) and
Brooks Roberts (PCS) added nine points each. Barnes had seven rebounds and Tyler dished out eight assists.
Xavier Meyers and Carlos Escalera led South Arkansas with 17 points each. Jaylin Robinson added 16 and Jayden Williams had 11.
The Bobcats made 43-of-84 shots from the floor for 51 percent. They were 10-of-29 from beyond the arc for 35 percent and 16-of-29 from the free throw line for 55 percent. The Stars were 28-of-74 from the field for 38 percent, 5-of-20 from the foul line for 25 percent and 25-of-35 from the free throw line for 71 percent.
Jones outrebounded South Arkansas, 58-42, and dished out 31 assists compared to 11 for the Stars. The Bobcats had 21 turnovers and nine blocked shots. South Arkansas had 20 turnovers and 12 steals.
