ELLISVILLE – Jones College was no match for No. 2 Chipola College on Saturday afternoon at A.B. Howard Gymnasium, with the visiting Indians rolling to a 71-45 win.
Chipola improved to 7-0 and handed the Bobcats, 6-1, their first loss.
The Indians scored the game's first seven points and held Jones to only a
Zharia Leflore field goal in the first quarter.
Jones would trail 38-14 at the half after shooting 3-for-23 from the floor. They'd end the night with a season-worst 20 percent shooting.
Despite trailing by double digits nearly the entire afternoon, the fight in the Bobcats was evident.
After being outscored 25-3 in the opening quarter, Jones was outscored by only four the final three quarters.
Jakera Ducksworth was the lone Bobcat in double figures, scoring 10 points and adding five rebounds and three steals. Leflore added eight points and
Anna-Patrice Patterson seven.
Taylor Rietveld led three Indians in double figures with 17 points and seven rebounds.
Chipola shot 43 percent for the game and connected on 7-of-18 from long distance.
The Bobcats will have a chance to bounce back on Monday, Nov. 24 at 5:30 p.m. when they host Baton Rouge. Admission is free.
