ELLISVILLE – No. 6 Jones College continued its early season offensive power here Thursday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
The Bobcats entered Thursday's game averaging over 95 points per game and topped that number with a 102-88 victory over Mississippi Delta. It was the 26th consecutive home win for Jones.
Braylon Barnes (Brandon) and
Jay Tyler (Oxford) each scored 21 points with
Dylan Rowe (Madison Central) and
Keron Jackson (Memphis) adding 15 points each.
Bob Dickson (Memphis) pulled down a game-high 18 rebounds. Rowe finished with five assists.
With the game tied 9-9 the Bobcats went on a 14-2 run to take control. A
Brooks Roberts (Presbyterian Christian School) 3-pointer ended the run and gave Jones a 23-11 lead.
An Antron Mason II layup cut the Jones' lead to 38-29 with 3:33 left in the first half. But Jones outscored the Trojans 18-6 the remainder of the half to take a 56-35 lead at the break.
MDCC scored the first 10 points of the second half to pull within 56-45, but they would get no closer.
Jones gradually pulled away and would take its longest lead at 92-68 with 8:16 left when Barnes made two free throws.
Mason led all scorers with 35 points and Carter Mullins added 13 for MDCC. Mason also led the Trojans with eight rebounds and six assists.
The Bobcats shot 45 percent and were 31-of-43 from the free throw line. MDCC shot 39 percent and was 24-of-33 from the foul line.
Jones outrebounded the Trojans, 47-46. The Bobcats had 14 assists and only eight turnovers. MDCC had 10 assists and nine turnovers.
The Bobcats outscored the Trojans, 35-19, off the bench, seven of those from Roberts.
Jones (7-0) will play three games in the Pensacola State Thanksgiving Classic next week. They meet No. 11 Gulf Coast State at 2 p.m. on Nov. 25, Tallahassee at 2 p.m. on Nov. 26 and No. 18 Chipola at 3 p.m. on Nov. 27.
MDCC (4-2) hosts LightHouse Christian College on Saturday in Moorhead.
