SUMMIT – Three Bobcat goals in a 7:15 span in the opening half was more than enough offense to lift No. 7 Jones to a 5-1 victory over Southwest Tuesday night at John I. Hurst Stadium.
Jones improved to 36-0 all-time against the Bears.
The Bobcats, ranked No. 7 in the lastest NJCAA poll, moved to 8-3-2 overall, 5-2-1 MACCC. Southwest fell to 6-4-3, 2-4-2 in the league.
Sherline King's 21st minute goal opened the scoring.
Nadia Sobel scored the first of two goals in the 25th minute, using a double assisted effort from
Crissi Tenner and
Jameyah Hubbard. Sobel streaked down the center of the field and it was a perfect one-two delivery for the goal.
McKenzie Conner made it 3-0 Jones in the 28th minute, heading in a
Mary Grace Batson corner kick, for her first career goal.
Goals in the 50th and 55th minute from
Magdalena Polrolniczak and Sobel stretched the lead to 5-0.
Southwest's lone goal came in the 57th minute when Evie Peet found Mia Encinia for a score.
Jones outshot Southwest 14-4 on goal.
Jennifer Huerzeler had two saves in the win.
Sara Kate Jefcoat had two saves and a goal allowed in the second half.
Jones hosts No. 2 Northwest, the defending national champions, Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m.
