ELLISVILLE – It was a long Tuesday night for No. 7 Jones College at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.
The No. 3 Northwest Rangers scored a goal in the opening minute and never looked back in defeating the Bobcats, 6-1.
Jones falls to 8-4-2 overall, 5-3-1 in the MACCC. Northwest improves to 12-1-1, 7-1-1 in league play.
Northwest's Caroline Hamm scored in the first minute and Molly Thompson scored off a rebound in the 17th minute to make it 2-0.
The Bobcats' only goal came in the 23rd minute when
Riley Rolison (Long Beach) scored off a rebound shot from
Sherline King (Panama) who was awarded the assist.
The Rangers went up 3-1 when Caroline Perkins scored and Emma Jensen's goal in the 41st minute gave Northwest a commanding 4-1 halftime lead.
Jolene Knevel's 45-yard free kick in the 61st minute and Mary Logan Clark's strike in minute 63 ended the scoring.
Ann Marie Barton had five saves for the Rangers and
Jennifer Huerzeler (Switzerland) had a season-high 15 for Jones.
Northwest took 30 shots (21 on goal) and had nine corner kicks, while Jones had eight shots (six on goal) and just one corner kick.
The Bobcats play their final regular season home match at 5:45 p.m. Friday vs. Copiah-Lincoln. Jones ends the regular season on Oct. 28 at East Mississippi.
