ELLISVILLE – Deadlocked into the final minutes of regulation, No. 4 Holmes connected on a free kick from on top of Jones' box in the 87th minute to steal a 2-1 win against No. 5 Jones Friday night at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.
Holmes improved to 11-1, 6-1 MACCC and handed Jones its second straight one-goal defeat to fall to 7-3-2, 4-2-1.
In one of the oddest goals you'll ever see, Holmes' Zion Causey broke a scoreless game open in the 41st minute with a goal laying flat on her back. Emma Korhonen headed on a Bulldog corner kick to the ground and Causey used her left thigh to send the ball into the goal.
Jones found the equalizer in the 67th minute when
Jameyah Hubbard's curling shot from the left corner split through the legs of two Bulldog defenders and into the lower shelf.
Tied the ensuing 20 minutes, a Jones foul on top of the box proved to be costly.
Brenna Sanford played a perfect touch to Tyler Grace Sims who one-touched it passed
Jennifer Huerzeler for the 2-1 lead and game winner.
Holmes outshot Jones 15-9.
The Bulldogs have won eight of the last 10 against the Bobcats.
Jones heads to Southwest on Tuesday, Oct. 14 for a 5 o'clock kick in Summit.
