FULTON – Itawamba's AJ Dent scored 28 of his game-high 38 points in the second half to lift Itawamba to a 92-79 upset of No. 7 Jones Monday night at The Davis Event Center.
Jones saw its seven-game winning streak snapped and fell to 14-3, 0-1 MACCC. ICC improved to 14-2, 1-0.
Dent's previous season-high was 20 points. He had 13 made field goals compared to 17 by the rest of the Indians.
Jones got off to a hot start and took a 15-6 lead minutes into the game, but ICC would come storming back.
An 11-0 Indian run, sparked by back-to-back threes from James Turner, turned what was a five-point Bobcat lead into a six-point Indian lead.
ICC would never trail again.
Jones got no closer than 83-76 with 1:27 left after an
LJ Hackman steal and dunk.
Ky Pernell led four Bobcats in double figures with 18 points and five boards. Hackman finished with 17 points and
Dimp Pernell and
Avery Thomas II had 14 each. Thomas just missed a double-double with nine rebounds.
Jones closed the night 42 percent shooting but was just 8-for-28 from 3-point range.
ICC shot 54 percent and was 23-of-26 at the foul line.
Jones will look to bounce back Thursday night in Ellisville when they host Meridian. The first 50 students who attend get a free t-shirt.
