ELLISVILLE – Four Bobcats combined for five first-half goals as No. 2 Jones cruised to a 6-1 victory over Mineral Area College Wednesday night at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.
Jones improved to 2-0 while MAC fell to 4-2.
The Cardinals struck first just 58 seconds into the match when Jersey Moonier scored in a bunch of traffic in front of the net.
Jones found the equalizer less than three minutes later from
Avery Saulter, one of six unanswered goals.
Saulter assisted on
Mary Grace Batson's goal in the 8th minute to give the Bobcats a 2-1 lead.
Marlie Jones extended the lead to 3-1 in the 12th minute and
Sherline King scored back-to-back goals in a 2:59 span to make it 5-1 Bobcats at the half.
Hope Welsh scored off an
Annamarie Edwards corner in the 89th minute to cap the scoring.
Jones outshot MAC 25-6, including 12-2 on net.
Scarlette Roberts played the opening 45 minutes in net for Jones,
Jona Hennings the next 30:21 and
Gracyn White the final 14:39.
Jones returns to the pitch Thursday, Sept. 12 against No. 16 St. Louis. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia.
