Short-handed Bobcats drop second straight at Holmes

RIDGELAND – After scoring the opening goal 2:14 in, No. 2 Jones gave up four unanswered in a 4-1 loss at No. 6 Holmes Friday afternoon.

It's the first back-to-back losses for the Bobcats since 2019 as they fell to 3-2, 0-2 in MACCC play. Holmes improved to 7-2, 2-0.

Marlie Jones gave Jones a 1-0 lead in the 3rd minute after grabbing a free kick and scoring in all sorts of traffic in front of the net.

Kristen Phillips answered less than a minute later for Holmes to tie the match and the Bulldogs scored again in the 5th minute to lead it 2-1.

Anna Beth Korhonen and Phillips scored in the 19th and 43rd minutes to make it 4-1 Holmes at the half.

Jones pitched a second half shutout but wasn't able to make up any ground.

Scarlette Roberts allowed all four goals but stopped seven shots in 45 minutes in net. Jona Hennings played the final 45.

Holmes out-shot Jones 22-9, including 13-5 on net.

Jones will play its next two matches at home, hosting East Central Sept. 24 and Hinds Sept. 27.
