ELLISVILLE –
Sherline King had two goals and three assists in her Bobcat debut and the defending NJCAA Division II National Champions opened the year with a 5-1 win over No. 6 Northeast (Nebraska) Thursday night.
King scored Jones' first goal of the year in the 11th minute, taking a
Pressley Carothers throw in, dribbling twice and drilling it into the back of the net.
That was all the offense the opening 45 minutes.
Abby Sheriff extended the Bobcat lead to 2-0 in the 52nd minute, one of four different players to score for Jones in the second half.
Less than three minutes later, Talia Sanders bent in a free kick from just outside the box to put the Hawks on the board and make it 2-1.
King responded in the 61st minute with her second goal and
Avery Saulter and
Riley Rolison followed in the 77th and 85th minutes to help Jones pull away for a 5-1 victory.
Scarlette Roberts played the first 45 in net, stopping two shots to get the win.
Jona Hennings played the final 45.
Jones outshot Northeast 17-9, including 13-4 on net, and drew eight corners against three for the Hawks.
Djoy Zwiesereijn allowed all five Bobcat goals and finished with eight saves.
