ELLISVILLE – Two goals over the final five minutes helped No. 16 Jones stun No. 3 Northeast (Nebraska) Thursday night, 2-1, for its first victory of the season.
Jones improved to 1-2 with the win, with the Hawks falling to 2-1.
Joshua Goodwin picked up five big saves in the first half and Jones dodged a rocket off the bar in the 18th minute to stay scoreless after one.
Still scoreless into the 61st minute, Northeast scored to make it 1-0.
Matt Reed scored the equalizer for Jones in the 85th minute after taking a rebound off a
Cameron Chamberlain shot in a skirmish in front of the net.
Landen Linares' first collegiate goal four minutes later was an absolute beauty to give Jones the game-winner in the 89th minute. Linares one-touched a
Lawson Harvey pass into the upper left corner of the net from just outside the box.
The Hawks outshot the Bobcats 18-12, with Goodwin registering a season-high six saves. Jones made its six shots on goal count, scoring two goals.
The Bobcats host No. 20 Georgia Military College next Saturday, Sept. 7 at 1 p.m.
