Seven-time defending Region 23 Champions bow out in Fulton

FULTON – For the first time in eight years, there will be a new NJCAA Region 23 Champion and women's representative in Lubbock, Texas.

The seven-time defending Region 23 champion Bobcats fell 54-36 at Itawamba Saturday to snap a 23-game winning streak in Region 23 Tournament play. 

ICC, now 22-5, moves on to the Region 23 Quarterfinals to play Coahoma.

The score was tied 10-10 after one quarter, with La'Genesis Johnson scoring six for Jones. 

With Jones leading 20-19 with under three minutes to play in the opening half, Itawamba closed on a 9-0 run to take complete control of the game.

ICC led 28-20 at the half and turned what was a 9-0 run into 21 straight to lead 40-20.

Jones scored two points in the third quarter and shot just 28 percent for the game.

Valencia McFall was the lone Bobcat in double figures, closing with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Ten different players scored for the Indians, led by 14 from Addison Howell. ICC shot 38 percent.

Jones ends its season 5-21, the first losing season in 20 years.
