RAYMOND – The 11th-ranked Jones College Bobcats dropped their first match of the year to No. 8 Weatherford College (Texas), 6-3, here Saturday afternoon at the Cleon McKnight Tennis Center on the Hinds Community College campus.
The Bobcats are 14-1 and will host Blue Mountain Christian University in a noon match on Wednesday. The Coyotes are 2-1.
Jones won in No. 1 doubles when
Matias Ruiz (Argentina) and
Charlie Brady (Australia) edged Emmanuel Jebutu and Alexis Leguizamon, 9-8 (7-2).
Duvan Santiago Torres (Colombia) and
Alex Holder (Madison Central) lost 2-8 to Bruno Britez and Hugo Castets in No. 2 doubles, 2-8.
Dawson Do (Northwest Rankin) and
Hudson Hans (Moss Point) lost a close one to Christian Lopez and Marko Filipovic in No. 3 doubles, 7-9.
Ruiz rallied past Leguizamon in No. 1 singles, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 and Holder beat Lopez in No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-4. Brady lost 2-6, 3-6 to Britez in No. 2 singles and Torres fell to Jebutu in No. 3 singles, 4-6, 0-6. Do lost 2-6, 0-6 to Castets in No. 4 singles and Hans fell to Filipovic in No. 5 singles, 3-6, 2-6.
