Jones gets good bounce back sweep at East Mississippi

Bobcats have won 26 straight over Lions

SCOOBA – Coming off two, gut-wrenching home losses Tuesday to Copiah-Lincoln, Jones College got a good bounce back sweep at East Mississippi Thursday.

Jones won the opener, 12-1 in five innings, and the finale 3-1 to extend its winning streak to 26 straight over EMCC.

The Bobcats host Coahoma on Saturday at 2 p.m. looking to hit the 20-win mark.

Jones 12, East Miss 1 (5 inn.)

Jayden Sawyer went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run and four RBIs to pace a Bobcat offense that scored 12 runs on 12 hits and capitalized off four EMCC errors.

Jones scored in each inning except the first.

Meredith Fontenot had a leadoff triple and scored on a groundout to get the Bobcats on the board in the second.

A four-run third, highlighted by Sawyer's three-run blast and Kaleigh Steverson RBI-double, extended the lead to 5-0.

Emily Mizelle homered in the fourth and added an RBI-single in the fifth along with an RBI-double from Sawyer.

Meg Vinson (2-0) was fantastic in just her third pitching appearance of the season, allowing one unearned run on three hits.

Elise Jackson and Makayla Lindsey added hits.

Jones 3, East Miss 1

Reanna Nieman followed up Vinson's pitching performance with a two-hitter of her own and seven strikeouts to get the sweep.

Tied at 1-1 in the fifth, back-to-back sac flies from Steverson and Mizelle gave Jones the go-ahead runs.

EMCC got the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh after a leadoff double, but Nieman was able to get a fly out and back-to-back strikeouts swinging to end the game.

Madelyn Chennault and Jackson were credited with the lone two Bobcat hits.
